ALDs Are Available With Wires Or Wireless.

While the wired devices are used with electricity the wireless are battery operated and they function like radios using light rays, magnetic inductive energy and radio frequencies to transmit the sound from the speaker to the listener. The three systems that are most widely used are the FM systems, Induction Loop Systems and Soundfield Amplification systems.

Each of these has their own advantages and special features to bring out the best performance and comfort to the users.  The FM system is capable of transmitting through walls and buildings and hence it requires multiple frequencies if one wants to use it in the adjacent room.

The soundfield amplification system uses loud speakers for its functioning which can be placed next to the listener.  This system should be installed under instructions and guidance of a professional audiologist for better results.  With the induction loop system one can hide the microphone behind a piece of furniture after encircling it around the room.  Its electromagnetic waves transmit the sound waves to the entire room through an amplifier.

One can benefit a lot from Assistive Listening Devices as they are portable and can be taken from one place to the other, they help in large areas or even in small class rooms.  People with varying hearing levels from normal to deficient can use these along with ones who have an increased level of hearing impairment.  They serve a major role when one is listening to audio or video equipment like stereos, DVDs etc.
